MediNotes users
(and users of other CCHIT certified EMR’s) will be eligible in the fall of 2008
to receive significant financial incentives under this five-year
pilot program.
The
Centers for Medicare Medicaid services (CMS) has announced a five-year
demonstration project that will encourage small- to medium-sized primary
care physician practices to use electronic health records (EHR) to improve
the quality of patient care.
CMS
will begin paying physicians
that are using a CCHIT certified EHR a substantial financial incentive. Up
to a maximum of $5,000 per physician and $25,000 per practice
in year one and up to $58,000 per physician and $290,000 per practice
over the five years. (See
Payment Summary link below for details)
The
five-year project will be implemented in two phases.
Phase I which will incorporate physician practices in the following
geographic areas: Louisiana;
Maryland/Washington, D.C.;
Pittsburgh, PA (and surrounding counties); and South Dakota (and surrounding
counties in Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota).
In
the fall of 2008 CMS working with their community partners will begin the
selection and recruitment of individual physician practices.
Phase II will begin in the fall of 2009 for the following locations:
Alabama; Delaware; Jacksonville,
FL (and surrounding counties); Georgia; Maine; Oklahoma;
Virginia; and Madison, WI (and
surrounding counties).
Payments to physicians and practices will be based on the selection and
implementation of a CCHIT certified EHR and a broad selection of quality
reporting measures. As specific information about the individual practice
application process becomes available AVS Medical will forward it to you.
